Woman Charged With DWI After Fatal Suffolk Crash: Police

The 30-year-old was accused of driving drunk when her car left the roadway, struck a telephone pole and a man early Sunday, police say.

LINDENHURST, NY — A Bay Shore woman was arrested on a DWI charge after a fatal car crash in Lindenhurst early Sunday, according to Suffolk police.

Lita Davidson, 30, was driving a 2016 Hyundai Elantra eastbound on Montauk Highway, near E Shore Road, when her car left the roadway, struck a telephone pole and a man at 4 a.m., police said.

The man, identified as 40-year-old Robert Vitale, who was homeless, was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip where he was pronounced dead, police said. Davidson was not injured.

Davidson was charged with DWI, police said. She was held overnight at the Fourth Precinct and is scheduled for arraignment at First District Court in Central Islip on Monday.
