Construction Starts On West End's First Full Service Gym
Long Beach Strength & Conditioning will open in Long Beach this spring.

Long Beach, NY — A former card store will be the site of the first full gym in the West End of Long Beach. Construction on what will be Long Beach Strength & Conditioning has started and the owners are hoping for a March opening.
Managing co-owner Andy Putnam told Patch that he lucked out in finding the space at 109 W. Beech Street, formerly the site of Kings and Things, a knick-knack and stationary store. The space is big enough for a gym at 3,600 square feet, a rarity in the immediate area, he said, and had high ceilings and big windows. Although there are several gyms in the east end, Long Beach Strength & Conditioning will be the first full-service gym on the west side of Long Beach, with a full floor of machines and weights.
Putnam and his partners are all from Long Beach. The “cool thing about the west end is you can ride your bike and walk to the gym and not move your car,” he pointed out to Patch as one benefit to the local community in having a local gym.

Putnam has spent 15 years in the fitness industry, as a personal trainer and working at other gyms, but this is his first time opening his own facility. The gym will have small classes as well as open memberships with a pricing fee for the classes, which will be in a separate area of the gym and combine strength training with elements of conditioning reminiscent of Orangetheory Fitness and Crossfit classes. The classes will run from beginner to advanced levels.
