Crimes Nearby: DA: Inwood Shop Owner Stole More Than $200K

Daniel Miller, the Inwood shop owner accused of drugging and having sex with a teen employee, was charged on Wednesday with stealing more than $200,000 by passing bad checks to payment-processing businesses, according to the Nassau District Attorney.

Miller, 45, was arraigned on two counts of second-degree grand larceny, third-degree grand larceny, seven counts of second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument and scheme to defraud in the first degree. The DA said Miller processed the bad checks between July 2009 and November 2010.

The Inwood resident, who owns a shop called Botanica Inle Osain, was arrested in April for allegedly drugging a 17-year-old male employee on his first day as an employee at the store and then having sex with him. He then apparently tried to hire a hit man to kill his alleged victim to stop him from testifying.

Miller is currently being held in the Nassau County Correctional Center on $5 million bond/$2.5 million cash bail for the murder-for-hire plot. An additional $100,000 cash or bond was set for the new charges.

Miller is due back in court on Sept. 13. He faces up to 10 to 20 years in prison if convicted.

Meanwhile, his mother and sister also face charges for their roles in the assassination plot.
