Customs Officials Seize 2,105 Counterfeit $100 Bills

Between July 15 and 16, a total of $210,500 worth of counterfeit $100 bills were seized at JFK Airport.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at a cargo facility at John F. Kennedy International Airport seized a total of 2,105 counterfeit $100 bills within two days.

On July 15, CBP officers seized 1,252 counterfeit U.S. $100 bills from among a shipment of 20 laminated pictures and three electronic protective cases labeled “Handycrafts Pictures.”

The next day, CBP officers found a similar bundle of 853 counterfeit $100 bills in a shipment containing one electronic case and three organizer bags called “Handycraft Bags.” In all, 2,105 counterfeit bills were seized, totaling $210,500. The bills were turned over to the U.S. Secret Service for further investigation.

“CBP has quite a diverse mission and this counterfeit currency seizure illustrates the vast responsibility that CBP officers deal with on a daily basis,” said Robert E. Perez, Director of CBP’s New York Field Operations.

“The men and women of Customs and Border Protection at JFK Airport continue to be a strong partner in our continued suppression of counterfeit Federal Reserve Notes entering the United States,” said John McQuade, Resident Agent in Charge of the U.S. Secret Service JFK Resident Office.

No arrests have resulted from this seizure yet, but the investigation is ongoing. All counterfeit dollars will be destroyed.
