DA: Oceanside Couple Stole $200G from Former Employer

The husband and wife sold goods as though they were their own via multiple channels, including eBay, the DA's office said.

An Oceanside husband and wife were arrested in connection with stealing thousands of dollars in merchandise from a Syosset-based online retailer and selling the goods as their own, authorities said Tuesday.

The Nassau County District Attorney’s office said ArmorMount, a provider of flat-panel television wall mounts, employed Ilana Kessler, 29, also known as Ilana Kessler-Reminick, to handle contracted sales management. From 2012 to 2014, Kessler – with her husband, Drew Reminick, 29 – allegedly stole merchandise from ArmorMount while employed there.

When ArmorMount discovered a series of illegitimate transactions and thefts, the company filed a complaint with the DA office. A subsequent investigation revealed that a “substantial amount” of transactions were fulfilled with stolen ArmorMount merchandise, for which the retailer was also billed for shipping, resulting in more than $200,000 in losses, the DA’s office said.

“Retailers rely on their employees to be honest ambassadors of their company to the customers that keep them in business,” Acting DA Madeline Singas said, in a statement.

“When employees attempt to capitalize on that relationship for their own personal gain, everyone – including customers, fellow employees and business owners – is hurt by their criminal conduct,” she added

Reminick, who is represented by David Mirsky, was arraigned Tuesday on second-degree grand larceny, and first-degree scheme to defraud charges.

Kessler, who is represented by Kyce Siddiqi, was arrested and arraigned on March 19 on the same charges.

Bail for each was set at $5,000 bond or $2,500 cash.
