East Elementary Closed Thursday Due To Coronavirus
A staff member who was in the building Tuesday tested positive for the virus, the district said.

LONG BEACH, NY — The Long Beach School District announced that East Elementary School is closed on Thursday after a staff member tested positive for the coronavirus.
According to the district, the staff member was in the building on Tuesday. District officials only learned about the positive test result late Wednesday. The building is being closed so it can be cleaned and to give time for contact tracers to work.
Any students or staff who were in close contact with the infected staff member will have to quarantine for 14 days.

This is the second time this week the district announced positive cases in schools. On Wednesday, it was found that two students at Lido Elementary School and one at the Middle School tested positive for the virus. School did not have to close because of those tests.
"We all know that these notifications cause some anxiety among our families," Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Gallagher wrote in a letter to parents. "Please know that these isolated cases have been happening in districts across Long Island over the past few weeks."
