The project developer, Equinor, has two contracts with New York State to provide over 2,000 megawatts of offshore wind power from the turbine field and plans to construct up to 174 wind turbines off the Long Island coast by 2027. The developer has included Long Beach as a possible site where offshore cables will make land to bring the wind energy to the Long Island and New York City power grids.
