Long Beach Braces For Tropical Storm Jose

The tropical storm could bring flooding to some city streets. Residents in flood-prone areas should prepare.

As Tropical Storm Jose continues making its way to the area, the City of Long Beach is bracing for high tides and possible flooding.

The city is coordinating with the state, Nassau County, PSEG and National Grid to prepare for potential heavy rain and possible flooding in low-lying areas Tuesday into Wednesday.

Public Works crews have been working to ensure that storm drains are clear and functioning properly, and sand will be moved on the beach to close off and secure openings in between dunes and along the boardwalk.

If residents live in an area that typically floods, the city encourages them to secure their homes and belongings before the storm hits. Outdoor furnishings should be tied down and secured, and anything that can be brought inside should be.

Residents are also encouraged to have emergency kits ready. The city mailed a Storm Preparedness Guide to every household. If you can't find yours, you can also access it online.
