Long Beach Bridge Work Starts Today

Lanes on the bridge will be closed over the coming weeks, affecting traffic on the city's main access way.

LONG BEACH, NY — Road work is set to begin on the Long Beach Bridge today, which will affect traffic on the bridge for more than a month.

According to the city, work on the bridge by the Nassau County Department of Public Works will be done in three phases. The DPW is repairing structural steel under the bridge. Phase one, which begins today, will last about nine days, depending on work conditions.

During phase one, one lane will be closed daily.

Phase two is scheduled for Jan. 4 through Jan. 22. One southbound lane will be closed daily, and all traffic will be moved to the northbound side of the bridge overnight, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

The third phase will begin on Jan. 25. It will close one northbound lane, and all traffic will be moved to the southbound lanes overnight, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

The work is currently scheduled to be completed on Feb. 12, but it could be extended depending on weather conditions delaying work.
