Long Beach High Offers College Application Support to Seniors

Long Beach High offers students support for the college application process through college fair, annual senior student and parent night.

For seniors, it’s time to apply to college and Long Beach High School’s counseling department is making an effort to help students navigate the application process. Long Beach High has been hosting events and activities to ensure that students are well educated and supported during the transition from application to acceptance.

On Sep. 17 Long Beach High’s annual senior student and parent night took place, and had over 125 people in attendance. Representatives from the State University of New York (SUNY) Geneseo and Hofstra University spoke to the crowd about the application journey and steps applicants should consider.

Kate Foster Anderson, the Long Island representative for SUNY, and Sunil Samuel Hofstra University’s vice president for undergraduate admissions advised students on how to present themselves on applications, in college essays, on resumes and transcripts and how to get the best out of teacher recommendations.

The high school also held a college fair on Sep. 20 that was attended by approximately 50 schools from across the nation. Seniors visited various booths and explored countless possibilities for college. The college representatives provided information about their programs, admissions requirements, campus life and other details, and answered students’ questions based on their specific interests and preferences.

Delivering an educational program that supports college and career readiness is one of the district’s major priorities. The counseling department and other members of the high school staff will continue to work closely with seniors and their parents throughout the school year as the students decide on their future endeavors.
