Long Beach Holocaust Survivor Gets Special Care Package
Volunteers visited Magda Rosenberg and gave her a Hanukkah care package.

Magda Rosenberg, a Long Beach resident and Holocaust survivor, received a special visit from volunteers from The Blue Card on Tuesday, who came to wish her a happy Hanukkah.
The Blue Card is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to providing direct financial aid and support to Holocaust survivors. This year, the organization is distributing Hanukkah care packages to survivors in need throughout the New York City area.
The care packages contain holiday and winter items to help elderly Holocaust survivors enjoy their Hanukkah celebration, including an electric menorah and comfort items such as a thermos, hot cocoa mix and a scarf.

“It is incredibly important to reach out to our elderly Holocaust survivors this winter to make sure they do not have to go without basic needs from food and heat to emotional support,” said Masha Pearl, executive director of The Blue Card. “Many survivors live alone and are isolated, so having a friendly visitor deliver necessities will mean so much.”
Of the more than 100,000 Holocaust survivors living in the United States today, an estimated one-third live at or below the poverty line, making it difficult to afford proper medical care, mental health care, nutrition and other basic necessities.
