Long Beach Native Charlie McAvoy Helps Bruins Secure Win

The 19-year-old from the Barrier Island scored an impressive debut in the NHL, and during a playoff game to boot.

Wednesday night was the first time Long Beach native Charlie McAvoy got on the ice for the Boston Bruins, and it was in a Stanley Cup playoff game against the Ottowa Senators.

He was as rookie as rookie could get, but the 19-year-old from Long Island still helped the Bruins score a 2-1 victory.

McAvoy's debut was impressive. He had the second-longest time on the ice of anyone on the team. Though he didn't score any goals in his first game, he still helped get the puck where it needed to be and played defense for his teammates.

"It's great to see that they trusted me and gave me the ability to kind of learn through my mistakes tonight," McAvoy said after the game.

The Bruins' second game against the Senators is set for Saturday at 3 p.m. McAvoy is likely to be on the ice again. Before Wednesday's game, two of the Bruins' defensive players were out on injury, and a third was hurt during the game.
