New Rabbi for Lido Beach

Young dynamic Rabbi to lead Lido beach Jewish communitty

Lido Beach Synagogue is pleased to announce the hiring of Rabbi Eli Biegeleisen as its new rabbi. He is joined by his wife, Shira, and their children who look forward to taking an active role in the operation and growth of the shul.

Following the recent departure of its former rabbi, the synagogue undertook a thorough search for a permanent rabbi and was thrilled to identify Rabbi Biegeleisen as the best choice. Mr. Alex Berkovitch, president of the shul, stated, “Rabbi Biegeleisen and his wife will enhance the quality of the Lido Beach community and will enable our shul to grow spiritually and physically. We are truly fortunate to attract such a fine rabbi as our new mara d’asra.”
Rabbi Biegeleisen added, “Lido Beach Synagogue is a special makom tefillah in a lovely community with a long and cherished history. I especially acknowledge Rabbi Daniel Mehlman, rabbi emeritus, for his many years of leadership. The members are dedicated to tefillah, limud Torah, and Jewish causes; the sanctuary is tastefully finished and the social hall is perfect for kiddushim and simchas. The Lido Beach camaraderie is second to none. My wife and I look forward to joining the community and guiding it to even greater levels of growth and Yiddishkeit.”
Just a stone’s throw from the bustling Five Towns, Lido Beach has had an Orthodox Jewish community and shul for over 50 years. The quiet suburban neighborhood of affordable, family-friendly homes on Long Island’s south shore offers a warm and active shul with a small town feel. The area features a variety of local kosher stores, an eruv, a mikveh, easy transportation into Manhattan/Brooklyn, and free busing to all Far Rockaway and Five Town schools. And of course, there is the beauty of the beach, even in the non-summer months. For those interested, a weekend visit can be arranged to sample this friendly, welcoming community.
Rabbi Biegeleisen, who also serves as director of community engagement at Darchei Torah, brings with him experience in rabbinics, community outreach, and organizational leadership. The scion of a prominent family of rabbis and Jewish leaders, he is a graduate of the Yeshiva of Philadelphia and Rabbinical College of Long Island/Mesivta of Long Beach. Rabbi Biegeleisen received his rabbinic ordination from several leading rabbis in Israel and has completed certificate programs in community development, family purity, and medical halacha. In addition to being a gifted speaker, he is the author of ‘Eis Laledes’, a comprehensive study of the halachos and minhagim of pregnancy, childbirth, and associated hospital care.
His wife, Rebbitzen Shira, is a native of Montreal, where her parents are veteran Torah educators. She is an elementary school teacher in a local Bais Yaakov, holds a degree in psychology, and is a talented pianist with several certificates in music which she teaches, performs, and has simply enjoyed for years.
