Three first-time candidates, Matthew Adler, Jes Bellsey and Elizabeth Treston, are vying for the seat of incumbent Roy Lester, the board’s president, and all will partake in a candidates forum at the Long Beach Library, at 111 W. Park Ave., from 7 to 9 p.m. May 6. The Long Beach Central Council PTA will host the forum that involves written questions submitted from the public for each candidate to answer. Â
Lester, 63, is an attorney who seeks a fourth term on the board; Adler, 38, is math teacher at Seaford High School and a parent of two young children enrolled in the Long Beach district; Treston, 53, was a project director for 10 years at TRAID, a state grant program that offers technology for people with disabilities; Bellsey, 33, is a former substitute teacher in the Long Beach district who now works as a trade show and special projects coordinator.Â
The at-large election will be held May 21, the same day the community will vote on the district’s proposed $123 million budget for 2013-14, which represents a 1.3 percent increase over the current spending plan.
