Oceanside Woman Scammed Out Of $16K: Police
The scammer claimed to be an FBI agent, police say.
OCEANSIDE, NY — Nassau residents were notified of a scam artist after a 36-year-old Oceanside woman fell victim to one, police said.
The woman received a call from a man claiming to be an FBI agent, police said. He instructed the woman to purchase multiple gift cards, totaling $16,500, and then take photos of them, police said. She sent the pictures on WhatsApp and then contacted the police about the incident, police said.
Detectives encourage anyone with information on the crime to call Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All calls will remain anonymous.
