PHCC Focuses on Online e.Learning Apprentice Academy

Non-traditional online program offers courses for vocational job training to meet increased demand for plumbers and HVAC professionals.

Northport, NY; May 22, 2018 – The Plumbing Heating and Cooling Contractors of Long Island (PHCC-LI), an organization comprised of Long Island's professional licensed plumbing heating and cooling contractors, has announced efforts to bring more individuals into the profession through the New York State PHCC e.Learning Apprentice Academy. The e.Learning Apprentice Academy is an innovative, non-traditional method for prospective plumbers to receive their foundational apprenticeship-related instruction. Young people interested in entering this profession or those interested in changing their careers simply need to apply online to begin the process.

"There is a significant demand for plumbers on Long Island. The PHCC's e.Learning Apprentice Academy gives individuals the chance to take their first steps to becoming a plumbing apprentice. The program is also ideal for men and women who are looking to make a career change into vocational professions," said Joe Cornetta President of PHCC-LI. "Plumbing and related HVAC trades offer tremendous opportunities for financially rewarding careers."

Many young people are looking for careers with good pay and secure futures. A growing number of them are also hesitant or not interested in going to college and incurring massive student loan debt that will take decades to repay. The PHCC e.Learning Apprentice Academy is a 21st Century way for people to enter the plumbing profession.

According to CollegeData.com, the average cost for a two-year community college program is $46,280, while a four-year college degree can cost anywhere between $93,640 and$183,088. The cost of the NY State PHCC e.Learning Apprenticeship Academy is between $6,780 and $10,780 and up to five years. In only a few years apprentice plumbers on Long Island can earn up to $50,000 a years plus benefits. They can earn significantly more once they complete their apprenticeship program.

The Long Island and national media has covered the need for more plumbers as well as positions in other vocational trades. Vocational training and data from the U.S. Department of Education's National Center for Education Statistics show that persons with career and technical educations are more likely to be employed than those with a bachelor's degree (https://nces.ed.gov/surveys/ctes/figures/fig_2016107-2.asp).

Students may enroll in the e.Learning Apprenticeship Program by contacting the NY State PHCC for an enrollment form by emailing dreddy@nysphcc.org. Once enrolled, NY State PHCC will provide the student with a textbook, which the student will have one year to complete with its coursework. An online course tracker allows students to know how much time remains for them to complete the scheduled work. When finished, the student can print a certificate of completion. This is the first and critical step in securing a plumbing apprenticeship and the start of a career in the profession.
