Skudin Honored for Long Beach's Swimming Success
Girls varsity leader adds to honors by being named Long Island's coach of the year.

John Skudin, the Long Beach high school girls swimming coach, was honored for the team’s success.
Skudin, who has run the program for 11 years, was named Long Island coach of the year and also Nassau County Conference I Swim coach of the year.
The former coach of the men’s and women’s teams at St. John’s University and Cornell University, is a two-time Big East coach of the year winner and was recognized as co-coach of the year for Nassau County boys swimming earlier this year.

“To me, it’s not about the awards … it’s about the kids,” Skudin said. “Success takes hard work … there are no surprises around swimming.”
This year, the Long Beach girls’ triumphs included five state titles, six county records, two state records, five all-America titles and one all-America honorable mention. The team recently placed third in the New York State swimming and diving championships and second at the New York State Federation.
