Special Weather Statement in Effect for Long Island, Strong Winds Knocking Out Power
Gusts of up to 50 mph possible through Saturday afternoon.

The National Weather Service has issued the following special weather statement for Long Island:
...CONTINUED GUSTY WINDS THROUGH THE AFTERNOON... SUSTAINED WINDS OF AROUND 25 TO 30 MPH WILL CONTINUE THROUGH THE AFTERNOON ALONG WITH GUSTS BETWEEN 40 AND 45 MPH. OCCASIONAL SUSTAINED WINDS OF 30 TO 33 MPH ALONG WITH GUSTS 45 TO 50 MPH WILL BE POSSIBLE THROUGH 5 PM.

Winds will diminish Saturday night and Easter Sunday is expected to be dry with only a slight chance of showers after noon. The high temperature on Sunday will be near 53, but wind chill temperatures will be between 25 and 35 early in the day, the NWS says.
