LIDO BEACH, NY — Instead of being cancelled entirely, the Tribeca Film Festival is spreading out this year and setting up drive-in screenings of films across the country, including here in Nassau County.

The famous film festival will be screening films at Nickerson Beach most weekends in July. Tickets go on sale on June 22.

“It’s in our DNA to bring people together through the arts, showing strength and resiliency when the world needs it the most,” said Tribeca Enterprises and Tribeca Film Festival Co-Founder and CEO Jane Rosenthal. “At a time when people are eager to connect and convene again after months-long social distancing, we’re taking the spirit of Tribeca around the country by creating a safe environment where audiences can come together and enjoy the sense of connection found by going to the movies.”

According to the festival, the movies screened will be "a curated selection of new, classic and independent films, as well as special music and sports events." The programming schedule has not yet been announced, but will be available at the film festival's website soon.

Films will be screened four days a week at Nickerson Beach, on July 9 through 12, July 16 through 19, July 23 through 26 and July 30 through Aug. 12. Tickets to the Thursday screenings will be free for first responders and healthcare workers as thanks for all they've done during the coronavirus pandemic.
