Uber Launches New Delivery Service On Long Island
Users can now use the ride-sharing app to send packages to others nearby in a contactless manner.
LONG ISLAND, NY — In preparation for a much different holiday season this year, Uber has launched a new delivery service on Long Island. The new service, Uber Connect, will allow Long Islanders to send packages to others nearby.
Users of the delivery service can send items by requesting "Uber Connect" in the Uber app. Users, both consumers and businesses, can use it to ship a range of different items in the same day with no contact.
“Throughout this crisis, we’ve been looking for new ways our platform can help move essential goods for businesses and consumers, while providing new earning opportunities for drivers," Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said in a release. 'While things are moving at a rapid pace, we are leaning in to delivery at Uber speed, and keeping our eyes on the future.”

Here’s how it works: customers open their Uber app and look for the “Connect” option on their home screen. Once they select Connect, they input the pickup and drop-off location and confirm the request. An Uber driver will then come to their house, pick up the package and deliver it for them.
Connect was built to provide a contactless experience. Customers simply meet their delivery person at the curb after a request is booked, carefully deposit their delivery items in the vehicle and track the package as they would an Uber trip.
