Will you vote in the Primary Election on 6/22 for City Council?
Do you feel that you really know the 7 candidates who are running?

I wanted to know the candidates' stand on election security. We have much to do to secure our
elections here. I contacted Sarah Nicholas of the League of Women
Voters . Sarah passed on my contact information and told the candidates that I had a question. Out
of 7 candidates, 2 responded - Kevin Heller and William Notholt. Kevin told me that this is a state and federal issue (not for the City Council) but that he has no issue with providing voter
I.D. That is good to know but I do still think the City Council members
could bring this issue to the attention of our state representatives if
it was something in which they believed, which it appears it is not.
And voter I.D. is just the tip of the iceberg. But is the fact that
none of the other candidates could even be bothered to contact me even
more of a problem?
Update: William Notholt did respond today and he has an interesting idea of using a finger scan along with signatures to verify legal voters. I asked him if he would commit to working on the adoption of this and other procedures to secure our elections and bring back the trust that we all need. I have not as yet received his reply. I had also tried to get that commitment from Kevin Heller who never responded.
In conclusion, we have 7 candidates running for City Council. Five of them have no interest in questions from Long Beach residents. Two of them are willing to converse somewhat on this subject, although they haven't (yet?) made a commitment. I believe that Long Beach residents want their candidates to win legally in every election. I have faith in the integrity of Long Beach residents. I thought that this information might be helpful for those who are choosing their candidates for City Council.
