Future Two Bridges Monstrosity Reaches 15 Stories
Construction on 252 South St. has made a lot of progress in the past week, photos show.
LOWER EAST SIDE, NY — At least one of the Two Bridges monstrosities looks to be going ahead as planned. Fifteen of 80 planned floors of the future One Manhattan Square building in the Two Bridges area of the Lower East Side were constructed as of Monday afternoon, photos show.
The glassy building at 252 South Street, which is supposed to be finished in 2019, will add 815 market-price and affordable housing units and five floors of retail to the Lower East Side, according to the latest building permits. It's one of at least four developments planned in the Two Bridges area in the next few years. It will be extremely visible in the Lower East Side skyline, to say the least.

Extell renderings show a building that is the tallest along the water, by far:

One Manhattan Square is just one of several controversial retail and residential developments that are poised to top out in the Two Bridges area. Community members have said they are concerned that an influx of new residents could overcrowd schools and transportation, among other infrastructure.
