2 Traffic Stops Lead To Firearms Arrests: Nassau Police

Police say two traffic stops in different towns hours apart led to arrests for illegal handguns.

NASSAU COUNTY, NY — Two traffic stops by Nassau County police on Tuesday led to two arrests for illegal firearms, police say.

The first arrest happened at 5 p.m. in Oceanside, police said. Officers pulled over a black 2010 Audi A4 on Long Beach Road and West Waukena Avenue, police said. While speaking to the driver and passenger, police say that the passenger, Tyrelle Gordon, 25, of Far Rockaway, was found to be in possession of a loaded handgun that had its serial number removed, as well as a substance believed to be marijuana, police said.

The driver, Victoria Cobb, 22, of Birch Court, Long Beach, was driving with a suspended license and had stolen credit cards on her, police said.

Gordon was charged with second- and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a firearm and second-degree unlawful possession of marijuana. Cobb was charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and multiple traffic infractions. They are scheduled to be arraigned later today.

The second incident occurred in Lynbrook at 9 p.m., police said.

Officers were driving north on Broadway in Hewlett at 9 p.m. and were being tailgated by a Mercedes Benz sedan that was repeatedly honking its horn, police said. The car then moved into the southbound lane, while still driving north, and sped around the officers' car, police said.

The officers turned on their lights and pulled the car over at the intersection of Broadway and Everett Street in Lynbrook, police said. As the officers approached the car, police say they smelled marijuana and saw the passenger, Randell Arthur, 23, of Mayfair Road, Baldwin, clutching a fanny pack to his chest. Police say Arthur was in possession of a loaded handgun, which had an LED flashlight and a laser sight attached, as well as marijuana. He and the driver, Naomi Cheikhali, 19, of Temple Court, Baldwin, were both arrested.

Arthur was charged second- and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a firearm and two counts of second-degree unlawful possession of marijuana. Cheikhali was charged with reckless driving and second-degree unlawful possession of marijuana. They are both scheduled to be arraigned later today.
