Former Lynbrook Teacher Raising Money for Film About Son's Heroin Addiction
Larry Glenz lost his son to a heroin overdose in 2010 and is looking to make a film based on a book he wrote detailing the battle.

Five years after his son lost his battle with heroin addiction, a Long Beach man and former Lynbrook teacher is raising money to create a film based on a book he wrote about his son’s illness.
“Good people fall into drug addiction, into heroin addiction. Good people die from it,” said Larry Glenz, author of “Forgiving Kevin,” in a video posted to Facebook Monday.
Kevin, Glenz’s son, was one of those good people. The lacrosse star died of a heroin overdose in 2010 at 27 years old.

The reality is a major theme of a film Glenz hopes to make based on the book, which he wrote based on journals he kept during his son’s addiction.
“It’s the story of the All-American boy that everybody loved and who loved everybody,” said Glenz, who taught for 36 years and coached in Lynbrook. “It’s the story of an addiction that was overwhelming, an addiction that he became convinced he wasn’t going to be able to beat.”

The battle addicts and their loved ones fight is a common one on Long Island and across the country. Glenz hopes to bring understanding and peace to those who may be fighting those battles themselves.
Glenz is raising $350,000 to make the film based on his book. So far, he has raised $7,581. Here’s how to contribute.
