Hempstead Town Awards $42,000 Grant To Lynbrook Village
The grant will help the village cover some of the costs incurred during the coronavirus pandemic.

LYNBROOK, NY — The Hempstead Town Board has recently approved a grant to be dispersed to eight villages within the township. The Village of Lynbrook received $42,399.42 to help alleviate costs directly brought about by the coronavirus pandemic. The announcement was made Thursday by Supervisor Don Clavin and Councilman Anthony D'Esposito. The provision of pandemic relief grants was made possible by the $133 million grant the Town of Hempstead was awarded from the federal CARES Act.
“I’d like to thank Sen. Schumer for his continued efforts in ensuring local municipalities receive financial assistance,” said Clavin. “No one in our town was spared from the impacts of this pandemic and the financial toll it has taken, especially on our local governments, has been significant. We are proud to be able to provide this funding to Lynbrook and provide them with some much needed financial support to keep residents safe.”
“The Village of Lynbrook maintains a productive working relationship with our partners in government at the Town of Hempstead,” Lynbrook Mayor Alan Beach said. “The $42,000 in grant monies provided this week is a great start in helping us cover the initial costs of PPE and other COVID-related expenses. We look forward to a continued partnership with Supervisor Clavin and the Board in order to help Lynbrook and its residents obtain the necessary funding to get us through these extraordinary times.”

At the start of the pandemic, and upon receiving the $133 million grant, the Town of Hempstead put together an economic recovery task force committee composed of a diverse set of voices from an array of sectors. The purpose of the committee was to pinpoint ways in which the grant could be spent effectively.
The grants awarded to the eight villages is one of several initiatives the Town of Hempstead has taken part in to alleviate some financial stresses. Other initiatives include an approved $2 million collaboration with Northwell Health to fund 15 additional coronavirus testing and education sites in the town, $4 million was awarded for food banks, $4 million for area hospitals and $2 million was granted to the Nassau County IDA to provide personal protective equipment kits for businesses.
