Severe Thunderstorm Warning Issued For Parts Of Long Island

Storms this evening may produce 60 mph wind gusts and quarter-size hail.

LONG ISLAND, NY — The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for parts of Long Island Monday evening. It's in effect until 5:45 p.m.

At 5:02 p.m., severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from the Throgs Neck Bridge to Sands Point to Rye, moving east at 15 mph.

The storms may produce 60 mph wind gusts and quarter-size hail.

Monday is going to be the hottest day this week, with a high maxing out at 90 degrees. But according to the National Weather Service, Thursday and Friday are going to be nearly as hot.

Though Tuesday and Wednesday are going to be cooler, with highs in the low 80s, there's also a chance of thunderstorms on both days.

Tuesday Night: A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 9 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 71. South wind 7 to 11 mph.

Wednesday: A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 3 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 84. South wind 7 to 11 mph.

Wednesday Night: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 9 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 73.
