NYCFC May Try To Build Belmont Stadium
The soccer team would be competing with the Islanders to build a stadium on the Belmont Park site.

The New York City Football Club (NYCFC), New York City's soccer team, may be bidding against the Islanders to be allowed to build a stadium at Belmont Park.
Newsday reported that a source confirmed that the NYCFC would be bidding to build a stadium at Belmont Park, putting them in direct competition with the Islanders, who are also planning to bid to build on the site. The requests for proposal for the site are due Thursday.
The NYCFC plays in the MLS league — the same league as the New York Red Bulls. The team is relatively new. It was founded in 2013, but has quickly gained a large following in the area. NYCFC currently plays in Yankee Stadium.
