2021 Is A Banner Year For Massapequa Seniors

MASSAPEQUA, NY — To celebrate the class of 2021, the halls of Massapequa High School have been decorated in colorful, handmade banners, just one of several spirit activities planned for the end of the school year. The goal was to bring joy to seniors in a year when many traditional activities were either canceled or modified due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Banners, many featuring Massapequa blue and gold, were made by students from the sophomore and junior classes, as well as by teachers, staff and student clubs. Seniors say the gesture means a lot to them.

“It’s really nice and it livens up the halls,” Isabella DeLuso said.

“We’re very appreciative of it,” said Kathryn Castoria. “The school is trying to do everything that they can to show they care about us.”

Senior class President Jack Devenish noted that the signs “light up the school” and make the seniors feel special during a year in which they have dealt with many restrictions.

“This is finally giving the seniors that feeling that this is our time to shine,” he said. “I’m glad that we’re beginning to honor our class in new and creative ways like this.”

Following the lead of the class of 2020, members of this year’s senior class continued the spirit doors initiative. Seniors were encouraged to decorate the front doors of their homes, celebrating their time at Massapequa High School as well as their future plans. The senior class also created an Instagram page to highlight college selections.
