Anticipation…
It’s keeping you waiting.

With the days growing shorter and the chilly solstice approaching, it is the perfect time to reflect within, which is where your divine light dwells.

Waiting can be difficult, and requires patience. Mary waited too, trusting in the Lord, hoping to provide what God was intending, and wondering how it would alter her plans.

Afterall, she was betrothed to Joseph, and adhered to the Jewish pre-marital tradition of celibacy. She had a great deal to consider and ponder during the very first Advent season. Advent calls us to do the same, focusing inward, quieting the external noise, seeking the veracious peace that resides with in, and acknowledging and trusting it.

As the world spins out of control and dictates and thrives on instant gratification: fast food, the immediacy of the internet, texting, and everything media all moving at lightning speed, it would seem appropriate for a break. Perhaps viewing Advent as a much-needed hiatus from the frantic-paced mindless monotony may facilitate patience, longing, and expectation. These desirable attributes cannot be rushed.

Advent is of this design with its four weeks of preparation, and is beautifully symbolized by the Advent wreath, which showcases each week with a lit candle lighting the way for the Christ Child. Some ancient peoples spent lifetimes awaiting a promise, hoping for more. Despite being very discouraged, they faithfully held on to the joyful promise.

Expect the unexpected, dream, be hopeful.

With temperatures in the northeast plunging, frost can be detected. Even though it is frozen on top with a perceived suspended animation, underneath the land and lakes are still brimming with life, waiting for the next step. If you are patient, something magnificent could occur exceeding expectations, and showing signs of a better way.

May your icy facades crack enough to allow what is concealed to come to light. It’s all about ease, not effort. Lingering with joyfulness, and postponing hurrying will usher in contemplation. Advent is the still ice, what grows on top depends on you.

MERRY CHRISTMAS !! Joy to the world! The Lord is come!
