Epiphany Extravaganza…

Man has always been drawn to light.

In ancient times, fire enabled him to overcome the physical darkness with a decent amount of accuracy and intention. Mastering and manipulating his environment was imperative to survival and the propagation of future generations, while harnessing the reigns over nighttime would also stipulate him as the victor.

This innate desire and compulsion to control or eliminate darkness with its mystical, foreboding, and unknown qualities has pervasively been both a harbinger and coveted prize to be conquered.

Even with the ubiquity of artificial lights indoors and decorating our landscape, the dispersed dimness, can still leave us feeling like we live in a world of obscurity.

Daytime, with its external bursts of warm illumination, give a false pretense as to what may be lacking within. Does your heart echo this sentiment?

A shadow can plant itself anywhere causing disconnect from the One True Light enabling it to take root, where it can lapse into voids that will be temporarily filled with non-spiritual supplications. Even a subtle breach can permit its invasive pillage which will colonize like the heartiest of microbes if left unchecked.

In the Catholic Church, the Epiphany is also known as Three Kings’ Day, and justly so. These three wise men set out centuries ago on foot in barren, isolated, darkness, vulnerable to attack, to follow an unmistakable star that shone with a dazzling radiance that rivaled the sun.

They believed, were safely transported, and met the True Light manifested as a young babe through the Father’s magnificent will and efficiency. Christ is Lord. The Magi believed… Do you?
