Finding the Good

What are you seeking?

Treasure hunts can be a fun activity to locate a power-ball of cash or embellished riches that only occur in a well-plotted fairytale.

Most are tempted by the dream of unfathomable wealth, but fall short with empty-handed fantasies. It’s similar to looking for “good.”

It could be overt, but often it is submerged within, hidden from standard viewing and tangibility, possibly even draped with contradictions and maladies.

It is analogous to a sculptor’s painstaking effort requiring precise chisels that eventually manifest a stunning piece of artistry.

Visionaries may contend that the sculpture was always there, just waiting for the right person to “see” it and reveal it. Searching for the “good” has the same quality and undefinable trope.

It is concealed in quiet, unseen, unheard, unremarkable by ordinary circumstances, and yet, it is powerful and profound.

These undetected, purportedly inconsequential actions, are what the Lord deems significant and are correlated as heaven-bound tasks. In the silence, a baby is fed, the sick are healed, animals are tended to, hugs are shared, charitable donations enable great feats, prayers are raised, and the world changes.

Not instantaneously. But incrementally and fastidiously, according to God’s plan.

We desire leaps and bounds with a monumental pay-off, but what if the point is a more poignant, intricate weaving that does not foster spontaneous combustion and fireworks, but a delicate, slow paced portrait of caring and progress, that enables the next step.

There is goodness in everything. Uncover it.

~ ” I revealed myself to those who did not ask for me; I was found by those who did not seek me. To a nation that did not call on my name, I said,’ here am I, here am I,’” Isaiah 65:1.
