Hazardous Weather Outlook Issued For Long Island

What you need to know about a storm heading our way.

The National Weather Service has issued the following hazardous weather outlook for Long Island:

Deep low pressure tracking west of the region will produce strong southerly winds Monday and Monday night. Depending on the ultimate track and intensity of the system, gusts of 45 to 55 mph will be possible.

Rain will overspread the region from southwest to northeast Monday morning and become moderate to heavy during the afternoon and early evening hours, the weather service says.

There's also a slight chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening. Up to 2 inches of rain is expected in total.

Sunday- Sunny, with a high near 54. Southwest wind around 8 mph.

Sunday - A 20 percent chance of showers after 1am. Increasing clouds, with a low around 41. Southwest wind around 6 mph becoming southeast after midnight.

Monday- Rain, with thunderstorms also possible after 2pm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. High near 62. Windy, with a southeast wind 6 to 16 mph increasing to 21 to 31 mph. Winds could gust as high as 47 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.

Monday Night- Rain and possibly a thunderstorm before 8pm, then a chance of showers after 8pm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Low around 49. Breezy, with a south wind 19 to 24 mph decreasing to 9 to 14 mph after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 40 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Tuesday- A 40 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 57. South wind 10 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 31 mph.

Tuesday Night- Partly cloudy, with a low around 35.

Wednesday- Mostly sunny, with a high near 46.

Wednesday Night- Mostly clear, with a low around 34.

Thursday-Sunny, with a high near 50.

Thursday Night- Partly cloudy, with a low around 36.

Friday- Mostly sunny, with a high near 50.
