Heat Wave To Bring Dangerous Temps To Long Island This Weekend
Hot and humid weather will make it feel like the mid-90s this weekend, forecasters say.
LONG ISLAND, NY — Make sure all of your fans and air conditioners are in working order, because a heat wave will hit Long Island this weekend that will make it feel like nearly 100 degrees on some days.
According to the National Weather Service, a wave of hot and humid weather will hit Long Island on Saturday and stick around until Tuesday. The heat index for Saturday is predicted to be in the lower-to-mid-90s, and then climb to near 100 on Sunday and Monday.
The heat and humidity are likely to carry through to Tuesday, which could see heat indexes in the low-to-mid-90s, the National Weather Service said.

High temperatures can cause heat-related illnesses and even death. Here are some tips on how to stay safe during heat waves:
- Stay in an air-conditioned area as much as you can. It's the best way to fight the heat.
- Drink more water than usual, and don't wait until you're thirsty to drink.
- Avoid using the stove or oven to cook, as they will raise the temperature of your home.
- Limit your outdoor activity, especially during midday hours when it is hottest.
- Wear loose, lightweight and light-colored clothes.
- Take cool showers or baths during the day to cool down.
Also, make sure to check on friends or neighbors during the day, especially the elderly. People 65 and older are at higher risk for heat-related illnesses.
