January Was Nassau's Worst Month For Coronavirus
The county saw many more infections in January than any previous month -- nearly 32 percent of all cases.
NASSAU COUNTY, NY — January was the worst month of the coronavirus in Nassau County so far, with more infections recorded than any month since the pandemic began.
According to statistics from the state, there were 40,926 new coronavirus infections confirmed in January, bringing the total to 129,664 infections. January alone accounts for nearly 32 percent of all of Nassau's coronavirus infections. The previous record-holder for the worst month was December, which saw 28,298 confirmed cases of the virus.
There were also 292 deaths from the virus in Nassau in January, which is the third-worst on record. April and May both had more deaths.

Nearly every day in January saw more than 1,000 new cases. Only four of the 31 days of the month had fewer than 1,000 new cases — the lowest number was 919 on Jan. 31.
