LONG ISLAND, NY — Record numbers of people around the country have flocked to the polls to vote in the 2020 election, and New York has been no different. In addition to the presidential election, both the entirety of the New York State Assembly and Senate were up for election this year.

All 63 seats in the state Senate were up for election this year, including the nine districts on Long Island. The Senate is controlled by Republicans, and the seats on Long Island reflect that. Three of the Island's nine seats were held by Republicans (two of which have retired this year), and the other six were held by Democrats.
