Long Island Weather: New Year To Start With Rain, Warm Temps

The end of 2020 -- and start of 2021 -- will be rainy but warm, according to the National Weather Service.

LONG ISLAND, NY — 2020 is finally coming to an end. And here on Long Island, the last week of the year will be mostly sunny and cool, and end with some rain.

Through Wednesday, skies over Long Island are going to be clear. Temperatures are reaching the mid-40s today, and dropping through Wednesday, where the high is predicted to be 39, according to the National Weather Service.

Then Thursday, rain is coming in. Rain is likely New Year's Eve and into New Year's Day. Thankfully, despite the rain, 2021 will start with some warm temperatures with highs in the 50s both Thursday and Friday.

Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 32. Wind chill values between 25 and 30. West wind 7 to 11 mph.

Tuesday: Sunny, with a high near 40. Wind chill values between 20 and 30. Northwest wind 13 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph.

Tuesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 22. West wind 5 to 11 mph.

Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 39. Light and variable wind becoming south 5 to 10 mph in the morning.

Wednesday Night: Increasing clouds, with a temperature rising to around 42 by 4 a.m.

Thursday: A 50 percent chance of showers. Cloudy, with a high near 52.

New Year's Eve: A chance of showers before midnight, then rain likely after midnight. Cloudy, with a low around 43. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent.

New Year's Day: Rain likely. Cloudy, with a high near 53. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent.

Friday Night: Rain likely before 10 p.m., then a chance of showers after 10 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 40. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent.

Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 49.

Saturday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 32.
