Man Got Into Drunken Crash With His 2 Children In Car: Nassau PD

Police say Robert Spears was driving drunk with his children in the vehicle when he collided with a car that was stopped at a red light.

MASSAPEQUA, NY — A Lindenhurst man was arrested in Massapequa Saturday night after police say he got into a car crash while driving drunk with his two children in the car.

According to police, Robert Spears, 42, of Birs Avenue, hit a car stopped at a traffic light at the intersection of Hicksville Road and William Road around 8:30 p.m. Officers responded to the scene of the crash, and police say an investigation found that Spears was driving drunk. he had two children, ages 6 and 9, in the car with him, police said. They were released to a relative.

No one was injured in the crash.

Speas is charged with DWI, two counts of aggravated DWI (Leandra's Law) and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child. He was arraigned on Sunday and released, and is due back in court on June 3.
