Massapequa Home Nominated For Historic Registry

The home, built in 1913, is among those being considered for the State and National Registers of Historic Places​.

A historic Massapequa home may soon become part of the State and National Registers of Historic Places.

Last week, Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that the New York State Board for Historic Preservation has recommended adding a total of 22 properties, resources and districts across the state to the list.

Among those included the house at 390 Ocean Avenue.

The home, which was built in 1913, is the last to be built in an early Massapequa residential development of homes constructed from National Fire Proofing Company tile and Ludowici roof tile.

  • The Charles and Anna Bates House in Greenport
  • The George Sumner Kellogg House in Baldwin
  • The Second and Ostrander Historic District in Riverhead
  • The Swan River Schoolhouse in East Patchogue

The owners of the historic properties added to the registry are provided assistance for revitalizing buildings, making them eligible for various public preservation programs and services, such as matching state grants and state and federal historic rehabilitation tax credits.

"The rich history of New York helped shape the history of this nation and the designation of these 22 additional sites to will help ensure that these places and their histories are preserved for New Yorkers and visitors alike for generations to come," Cuomo said.
