Massapequa Man Celebrates His 100th Birthday

World War Two Veteran, Worked in the Civilian Conservation Corps Rebuilding America During the Great Depression

William Kaltsas, a resident of The Bristal at Massapequa celebrated his 100th Birthday. His children and grandchildren took part in a drive-up celebration.bThe family gathered outside The Bristal to sing happy birthday just hours before the start of the blizzard.

Bill, a WWII veteran, was born to a Greek family in New Hampshire. They moved back to Greece when Bill was just a year old and returned to the United States in 1937 when he was 16 years old. Bill worked in the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), a voluntary public relief program which provided manual labor jobs for men aged 18-25 during the depression.

Bill had a varied and interesting career operating a belly dancing club, night club and a seafood restaurant in the New York City area. He and his wife Helen were married for 70 years until her passing at the age of 88 in 2019. They had three kids, five grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and a great-great granddaughter.
