Massapequa Superintendent Announces Her Retirement
Lucille Iconis, who has been with the district for more than 20 years, will step down on Sept. 30.

MASSAPEQUA, NY — Lucille Iconis, superintendent of the Massapequa School District, has announced her retirement, effective Sept. 30, 2021.
Iconis has spent nearly half of her 45-year career in education in Massapequa, including eight years as superintendent. She has also served as the assistant principal and principal of East Lake Elementary School, and assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction.
The board of education has selected Brian Conboy as interim superintendent, beginning Oct. 1. He will serve in that capacity for the remainder of the 2021-22 school year while the board conducts a search for a new superintendent. Conboy was interim principal of Massapequa High School from 2018 to 2020, and was superintendent of the neighboring Seaford School District for seven years until his retirement in 2017.
