It’s a noble endeavor.

I would never doubt that.

I admire those who truly believe not only in the cause but that we are close to success in eliminating the horror of discrimination.

Sometimes I wonder, however, if it hasn’t been attempted since the beginning of civilization.

Obviously, I don’t know about that.

I’m old, but not quite that old.

I only remember the bitter taste when I first encountered it.

The year I was sixteen in the midst of a congenial luncheon I was asked if I lived “west” or “east” of Central Park.

Innocently, I replied, “Oh, west.”

That was the last time I shared lunch with my erstwhile “friends.”

Today we have equal rights, quota systems, and prevalent optimism that the ugliness of discrimination is close to extinction.

However, hasn’t nature intervened?

Before invitations are extended, will potential guests be asked if they have had not only their vaccine, but a booster?

And when?

Will they be questioned about observing the prescribed two week period of isolation?

Will corporations hire qualified applicants who have opted not to have the vaccine?

Will young couples not only exchange phone and/or email addresses, but include the vital statistics of when they had their Phizer, Moderna or possibly J&J?

Oh, I do so hope I am wrong.

But could this become the newest wave of prejudice?

And is it justified?
