North Pole Air To Freeze Long Island; Snow Possible

Get out that winter hat and gloves.

Monday will be a gorgeous fall day on Long Island with a high near 60 degrees. But don't get used to it. Frigid air from very close to the North Pole will send temperatures to well below freezing Tuesday night, the National Weather Service says. The expected wind chill temperature at 6 a.m. Wednesday: 5 degrees.

Both highs and lows will be around 20 degrees below normal with the possibility that temperatures do not get above freezing Wednesday afternoon, the National Weather Service says.

We may also see our first snowflakes of the season Tuesday. Precipitation will begin as rain Tuesday morning, but it could mix with or change to snow for a few hours during the afternoon.
