Play Ball In Nassau! County's Fields Reopen.
Baseball, softball and multi-purpose fields in the county reopened. Also, the county cracked down on fireworks and overcrowding violations.
NASSAU COUNTY, NY — As Long Island continues to reopen from the shutdowns imposed during the height of the coronavirus pandemic, Nassau County Executive Laura Curran announced that dozens of sports fields are now open for play.
The county has prepared 60 fields to open today for youth and adult sports in parks all over. That includes 10 baseball fields, 37 softball fields and 13 multi-purpose fields. Baseball, softball, soccer and lacrosse leagues across the county will be able to use the fields, and summer sports camps will be able to resume.
Though the fields are open, social distancing requirements are still in place. People using the fields should wear masks when coming and off, and any spectators or coaches on the sidelines should also wear masks.

In addition to announcing the reopening of fields at her daily press conference, Curran also discussed enforcement actions the county took this weekend for both fireworks and social distancing violations.

According to Curran, Nassau County police made seven arrests over the weekend for the illegal use of fireworks. There was also one injury reported after fireworks exploded in the hand of a Levittown man, injuring his hand and eye.
Curran also said that the county received 68 complaints over the holiday weekend about establishments that were overcrowded or not respecting social distancing guidelines. The Nassau County Fire Marshal inspected all of them, Curran said, and issued 16 warnings and three appearance tickets.
"Most people get it. Most people comply," Curran said. "Which is why when you have 68 complaints, you just end up with three appearance tickets."
