Police ID Man Hit By Car And Killed While Walking His Dog
Police say 30-year-old Matthew Elder was killed on April 8 when he and his dog were hit by a car while they were crossing Merrick Road.
MASSAPEQUA, NY — Nassau County police have identified the man who was hit by a car and killed while walking his dog in Massapequa last week.
Police say 30-year-old Matthew Elder, of Massapequa, was walking his dog and crossing Merrick Road near Forrest Avenue just before 8 p.m. on April 8 when they were hit by a car heading west on Merrick Road.
The driver of the car, a 72-year-old man, remained at the scene, police said.

Police said Elder suffered traumatic injuries and died at the scene.
There was no apparent criminality involved in the collision, police said. The driver of the car was not injured.
