The Superiority Of

Pen and Paper

Spring is here. I actually saw a magnolia tree beginning to bud yesterday, and hopefully, Covid will soon become an ugly memory.

So why am I so anxious?

Could it be due to the fact that despite my intense efforts to keep abreast of technology, it has failed me utterly.

My esteemed highly recognized credit card company (a 44 year relationship) denies receiving a wire transfer from a bank also sharing a long time relationship with me,

A once cordial relationship with both so called reputable establishments has deteriorated beyond repair.

It was a sizable amount of money that was withdrawn from my account and now resides in the land of digital limbo.

The bank cheerfully verifies the funds went via wire and were received. The implacable blue chip credit card company says,

“No, never happened.”

Meanwhile I am blessed with repetitive calls daily with employees residing in Malaysia, India, the Philippines as well as Dublin. We indulge in lovely lengthy conversations, complete with my repeating dates, and other pertinent data, and still there is no solution to my problem.

Meanwhile my bank account is missing money,

Each and all are polite to the utmost, yet in the conflicted world of 2021, I cannot help but feel a chill of something gone amiss.

Now that the problem has been ongoing for two weeks, both the bank and credit card company are weary of hearing from me about my missing funds. Their cordiality is wearing thin when I ask the only important question:

Where is my missing wire transfer?

All are alike in their polite negativity, and shocking in their inability to give an answer.

And for the first time I can remember I am wondering if paper and pen were superior to the internet?
