Threat On Social Media Closes Long Island Middle School
Officials were notified of a threat made on social media and closed the building to keep people safe.

MASSAPEQUA, NY — Berner Middle School was closed to in-person instruction on Monday after a threat was made against the school on social media.
The Massapequa School District said it was made aware of the social media threat and closed the school out of an abundance of caution. The district said it notified its security team, the Nassau County Police Department and the Department of Homeland Security so the threat could be investigated.
Nassau County police did not specify what the nature of the threat was, but did say it was being "actively investigated."

Despite the closure of the school, students were able to continue their learning. The district switched all of its classes to distance learning for the day, so students did not miss any instruction.
