Check out what will be open and what will be closed before heading out this holiday.

MASSAPEQUA, NY — Many local offices and businesses will shut their doors on New Year's Day as Long Island prepares to spring back to life after the holiday season. Taking the day off is also a nice way to recover from any New Year's Eve festivities.
All government buildings are closed on Jan. 1, as New Year's Day is a federal holiday. It's also the last day of winter recess for local schools.
Many stores, restaurants and movie theaters will be open in case you need to pick something up or get out of your home for a few hours.
