Child Killed In Overnight Suffolk House Fire
A 23-month-old girl was killed in the fire early Wednesday. Four other people were injured.
GORDON HEIGHTS, NY — A toddler was killed in an overnight fire in Suffolk County. Four others were injured in the blaze, which broke out shortly after 3 a.m. Wednesday in Gordon Heights.
A 911 caller reported the fire at a home on Maple Lane.
After the fire was extinguished, a 23-month-old girl was found inside the home and pronounced dead. Police did not name the girl, but her family identified her as Majesty Gerard, according to ABC 7, which also reported the child was trapped in the basement with her older sister when the fire started.

The older sister escaped unharmed. A 34-year-old woman, 57-year-old man, 4-year-old boy — among nine members of an extended family in the home at the time of the fire — and a member of Medford Fire Department were transported to area hospitals with minor injuries.
Police said the cause of the fire was not criminal.

The Gordon Heights, Yaphank, Selden, Farmingville, Middle Island, Medford, Holtsville and Coram fire departments responded to the fire.
