Drunk Man Crashes Car Into Wall With His Toddler In Car: Cops

A 16-month-old boy and a 20-year-old woman were injured in the Long Island crash early Friday, police say.

CORAM, NY – A 21-year-old man was drunk when he crashed his SUV in Coram early Friday, injuring his 16-month-old son and the child's mother, Suffolk Police said.

According to police, Jonathan Bernal Lorenzo was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer when he lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a retaining wall and a building at 3723 Route 112 at about 12:30 a.m.

The passengers in the SUV, 20-year-old Mari Cruz Villedea, of Medford, and their 16-month -old child, suffered minor injuries. They were treated and released from Stony Brook University Hospital.

Sixth Squad detectives charged Bernal Lorenzo, 21, of Medford, with DWI, aggravated DWI with a child passenger 15 years old or younger (a felony under Leandra’s Law) and endangering the welfare of a child. He was held overnight at the Sixth Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip Friday.
