Long Island Flute Club's Fall Ensemble Concert to be Held at Pat-Med Library

The silvery sounds of Long Island flutists will be on full display at the Long Island Flute Club’s Fall Ensemble concert on Sunday Oct. 26 at the Patchogue-Medford Library.
The concert will feature the LIFC’s Professional Flute Choir. This 16 piece ensemble, conducted by Deborah Schild, features all members of the flute family from the tiny piccolo to the large bass flute. The program will feature a wide variety of music including for all to enjoy. The group will perform the exciting Fire Dance by renown contemporary composer Valerie Coleman. The beauty of the entire flute family is shown in Lawrence Ink’s Three Pieces for Flute Choir and Wordless Songs by Judy Nishimura. Folk melodies of the Carpathian Mountains are featured in Peter Senchuk’s Karpaty. Flutista with its Mambo and Bolero movements and Ian Clarke’s jazzy Zig Zag Zoo will make you feel like dancing in the aisles.

To celebrate the Long Island Flute Club’s 30th Birthday, the Professional Flute Choir will perform Happy Birthday in the styles of many famous composers including Haydn, Strauss, Wagner, Scott Joplin, Rosza, Liszt and Dvorak.In addition to the Long Island Flute Club’s Student Honors Choir will also perform. Both choirs will perform together for a very special concert finale. To be selected for the Honor’s Flute Choir students had to perform a Level VI solo at the 2012 NYSSMA Festival and receive a score of A or higher.
The Long Island Flute Club’s Student Honors Choir is directed by Danielle Schulman. The Long Island Flute Club’s Professional Flute Choir consists of Sara Brugger, Cathleen Cook, Laura Gustavson, Jennifer Haley, Debra Kalabza, Amy Kempton, Charlotte Loake, Martha Loeb, Angelina Modica, Lauren Osnato, Andrea Reinhold, Christine Saraceno, Concetta Stevens, Leslie Strait, Edna Susman, and Sandra Vigliotti. Members of the LIFC’s Student Honors Choir are: Mabel Burgos, Abigail Berkower, Sarah Ferrante, Therese Friedel, Sarah Gutman, Savannah Legg, Amelia Libby, Megan Julia Reilly, and Gabrielle Sanft.

The concert will be performed at the Patchogue-Medford Library at 2:30 pm on Sunday and is free to the public. The Patchogue-Medford Library is located at 54-60 Main Street in Patchogue. The Long Island Flute Club is a member club of the National Flute Association. This year, 2014, the club is celebrating its 30th anniversary of enriching the musical lives of flutists in the greater New York area. Serving both professionals and students, the club offers a diverse calendar of events each season. The acclaimed LIFC concert series has become an integral part of the Long Island arts scene, attracting an audience of flutists and the general public.
